THE HOMEWOOD-FLOSSMOOR PARK DISTRICT PROUDLY SUPPORTS:

Celebrate Your Experience & Wisdom for Older American’s Month
Sponsored by Holland Home Retirement & Assisted Living & Providence Life Services
Why Celebrate?! Older Americans Month is our chance to show appreciation and support for seniors as they continue to enrich and strengthen our communities. President John F. recognized the impact older Americans made, thus in April of 1963, designated May as "Senior Citizens Month.”  Thanks to President Jimmy Carter's 1980 designation, what was once called Senior Citizens Month, is now called: "Older Americans Month" …and has become a tradition.

The Administration on Aging (AoA) issues a theme for Older Americans Month. This year's theme “Never Too Old to Play” encourages older Americans to stay engaged, active and involved in their own lives and in their communities.  As the summer brochures reach your homes please take a look and head on over to the parks.  Look forward to seeing you soon!
Every President since JFK has issued a formal proclamation during or before the month of May asking that the entire nation pay tribute in some way to older persons in their communities. Older Americans Month is celebrated across the country through ceremonies, events, fairs and other such activities.

Valentine's Day Party

Hearts, chocolate, red, pink and white all make you think of Valentine’s Day. The party featured them all. Starting with a delicious lunch of Salisbury steak with mushroom gravy, mashed potatoes, corn and red velvet cake. Followed by the crooning sounds of Bill Dunnam.  Bill smooched the audience as he traveled through the room singing all our love songs to all.  The party ended with a Valentine's Day baton pass rendering 9 people love struck winners.  Stop by the Irwin Center to see the beautiful picture collage of the entire party.

Sing-a-Long with Andy

For the past couple of years Andy Malewicz, a Homewood resident has been volunteering his time at the Irwin Center.  Andy takes pleasure in entertaining and sharing his musical talent with the seniors during their Let’s Do Lunch Program.  Andy’s acoustic guitar and vocals bring a warm feeling of camaraderie to the room.  The live music gets everyone in a vibrate mood ready for lunch and to enjoy the activities to follow.  Sometimes, Andy shares the stage with willing musicians such as 87 year old Eddie Storrie.  Eddie loves to play the harmonica.  In fact, she carries her harmonica with her wherever she goes never missing a beat.  Eddie skillfully plays many different tunes along with Andy.  Stop by for lunch this month on Monday, February 27th to join the fun.

To see the video of Andy & Eddie go to http://www.hfparks.com/ and click on the Active Adult and Senior tab.

If you’d like a stage to share your talent with an appreciative crowd call Amy at 708-957-7275 to set it up!

As promised, we got some great photos from our New Year's party. Our guests could barely keep from dancing in the aisles!

NEW YEARS PARTY!

What better way to welcome in the New Year than a party with all your friends!?

At this SOLD OUT  party we enjoyed a petite prime rib lunch followed by a fantastic entertainment show featuring the many voices of Chuck Droger.  His amazing voice matched his good looks. :)

We all rang in the New Year with a sparkling toast to a healthy 2012 and ended the day with noise makers and a shreaded paper confetti drop/toss up!

Truly was an event to remember...

Rewards, Rewards, Rewards

Participation & attending programs with the Homewood-Flossmoor Park District Active Adult & Seniors group will soon pay off. We are starting a new rewards program. All you have to do is attend any program. As you register or sign in, the staff will tally mark your H-F rewards points. What are H-F rewards points? These are points that accumulate for six months and then you will be rewarded for basically enjoying your leisure time. Friday, June 1, 2012 from 10a.m.-1p.m. the H-F rewards points can be redeemed. The points you earned will be used like money to purchase great prizes.
